Some impressions of this year’s Amsterdam trip:
Really great to meet Johanna, flat-mate in sublime Mariahilfer Straße times. You can see Amsterdam’s Oude Kerk (old church) in the back.

Some crazy live performance in the Sugar Factory, where I unfortunately dropped my Nokia into a glass of beer—it still does its job perfectly, only the ear speaker is damaged, so I have to use it hands-free until repair.

The Red Light District and its strange flair. The city draws curtains spending some million Euros trying to find a new (artsy?) purpose for Amsterdam’s center. As long as it brings money to the city …

Stefan running the Vienna City Marathon 2008, he finished scheissgeil with 3.5 liters of beer.
My brother went surfing in Vienna, Copa Cagrana. I was allowed to take some pictures: check out his blog — he’s now surfing Brazil!
Yesterday evening Dita von Teese performed a very inspiring 10:46 minutes Burlesque show in the Lugner Cinema. Her famous Martini glass bath and Champagne shower, very delicate and smoooth. Richard Lugner and his “Neo-Mausi” Bettina: awkwardly funny as usual. No pictures allowed during the show, so all I got was this lousy Martini glass shot:
Fortunately, I found a nice picture (stern.de) on the web to share with you.
Yesterday evening we arrived in San Francisco. After walking up Lombard Street at night we had dinner in China Town and finished with a Mojito in Condor Club on Broadway—nice dancing there, iykwim
.
Today we took the 49-Mile Scenic Dive through the city, impressive views from Twin Peaks and a Golden Gate Bridge halfway in fog.
Baker, California. We are going to San Francisco, yet no flowers in our hair. A big `Thank you!` goes out to Thoean for showing us around in Las Vegas, one unforgettable evening filled with impressions of Bellagio fountains, dinner in Venetian flair, night clubs from Coyote Ugly bar dancing house music served cocktails. Of course some gambling, too. We stayed at Circus Circus, one of the few old school Las Vegas hotels/casinos.
Before Las Vegas we went to Hoover Dam:
The night before we stayed in Mesquite, right at the Nevada border. Monument Valley really is impressive, I`ll have to watch `Back to the Future III` again, some scenes are set here.
Dinasour Trails:
Grand Canyon, the day before that:
Halloween at Flagstaff:
Meteor Crater:
Albuquerque:
Valley of Fires:
White Sands:
Short trip from El Paso to Juarez, Mexico:
I`m writing this at a Burger King restaurant near Monument Valley. We were cut off from the internet the last days, next update will be from Las Vegas tomorrow.
We had some great steaks at Outback Steak House in Houston. Downtown Houston really is deserted, at least on Sundays as in our case.
So we just walked around the skyscrapers and had a coffee at Starbucks. Soon we hit the road again to get to San Antonio.
We found a Czech Village on the way, near Weimar:
San Antonio was great: lively market and good Mexican restaurants. Do you know Alamo the movie?—we`ve been at the place where the Texan heroes gave their lives instead of surrendering to the Centralists.
At noon we hit the road again, right through the desert to El Paso, where right now we are having breakfast in a motel.
Greetings from a motel in Houston! Today we have been attacked by a vicious turtle, Johannes could fight that evil breed fortunately.
We crossed the border to Texas today after staying one night in Lafayette. So at least they are still prould of GWB here:
There was a little fire next to the road:
The beach near Galveston was great, nobody bathing but you could drive directly to the water—some people enjoyed the sun on the bed of their pick-up trucks.
Fast food so far: <forgot name @ airport>, Mc Donalds, Subway, Burger King, Taco Bells. We are looking for a good steak house this evening, tomorrow we`ll visit Houston downtown area and head to San Antonio, from where we`ll have a long section (~700 miles) through the desert to El Paso near the Mexican border. Our car is a Mazda 5 by the way:
