San Francisco

Yesterday evening we arrived in San Francisco. After walking up Lombard Street at night we had dinner in China Town and finished with a Mojito in Condor Club on Broadway—nice dancing there, iykwim :) .

Today we took the 49-Mile Scenic Dive through the city, impressive views from Twin Peaks and a Golden Gate Bridge halfway in fog.

Las Vegas

Baker, California. We are going to San Francisco, yet no flowers in our hair. A big `Thank you!` goes out to Thoean for showing us around in Las Vegas, one unforgettable evening filled with impressions of Bellagio fountains, dinner in Venetian flair, night clubs from Coyote Ugly bar dancing house music served cocktails. Of course some gambling, too. We stayed at Circus Circus, one of the few old school Las Vegas hotels/casinos.

Before Las Vegas we went to Hoover Dam:

The night before we stayed in Mesquite, right at the Nevada border. Monument Valley really is impressive, I`ll have to watch `Back to the Future III` again, some scenes are set here.

Flagstaff

I`m writing this at a Burger King restaurant near Monument Valley. We were cut off from the internet the last days, next update will be from Las Vegas tomorrow.

San Antonio

We had some great steaks at Outback Steak House in Houston. Downtown Houston really is deserted, at least on Sundays as in our case.

So we just walked around the skyscrapers and had a coffee at Starbucks. Soon we hit the road again to get to San Antonio.

We found a Czech Village on the way, near Weimar:

San Antonio was great: lively market and good Mexican restaurants. Do you know Alamo the movie?—we`ve been at the place where the Texan heroes gave their lives instead of surrendering to the Centralists.

At noon we hit the road again, right through the desert to El Paso, where right now we are having breakfast in a motel.

Greetings from a motel in Houston! Today we have been attacked by a vicious turtle, Johannes could fight that evil breed fortunately.

We crossed the border to Texas today after staying one night in Lafayette. So at least they are still prould of GWB here:

There was a little fire next to the road:

The beach near Galveston was great, nobody bathing but you could drive directly to the water—some people enjoyed the sun on the bed of their pick-up trucks.

Fast food so far: <forgot name @ airport>, Mc Donalds, Subway, Burger King, Taco Bells. We are looking for a good steak house this evening, tomorrow we`ll visit Houston downtown area and head to San Antonio, from where we`ll have a long section (~700 miles) through the desert to El Paso near the Mexican border. Our car is a Mazda 5 by the way:

@betti

/me go to America!

From New Orleans to Los Angeles: an adventurous road trip lies ahead!

Taking off this Wednesday from Munich (thank you Betti for letting us stay at your place!) and heading to New Orleans, we plan to finally arrive in Los Angeles at Friday, Nov 9th. Some hundred miles to go.

Let me give you a rough schedule of our trip, staring at the end: In L.A. we’ll visit a NBA game of Lakers vs. Timberwolves and meet some locals (Regina & her husband, Silvia & Kathi). In between there’ll be a mixture of cities like Las Vegas, San Francisco, Dallas and landscapes like Monument Valley, national parks, mountains and deserts.

First of all we’ll spend some days in New Orleans, using Jazz and fresh Mississippi water to get accustomed to the American way of life.

I’m going to keep you up to date with our traveling advances through this blog and an invention called flickr.
